    The latest on Liz Murray

    Tuesday, December 02, 2003

Mexijew.com has, apparently, become one of the top ten sites on the internet for people searching for information about Liz Murray. I figured it's time to follow up on my previous entry, which I wrote just after watching Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story for the first time.

First of all, no, Liz never answered the e-mails I sent to her. I figured she wouldn't, as she's probably been receiving thousands of them by now, and can't get around to answering everyone's questions.

Liz didn't throw away her life when she left Harvard. Liz is now attending Columbia University, and is studying film. Ironically, making the movie with Lifetime about her childhood led Liz down the path to discovering she loved filmmaking, and now wants to pursue a career in it.

Liz is also finished with her first book, Breaking Night: A Memoir. It's not out yet. According to Amazon.com (which has the book incorrectly titled Breaking Unit: A Memoir), it's due to be published by Hyperion in April of 2004.

Liz is an exclusive speaker for the Washington Speakers Bureau. She has a small webpage on their website, which has a little bit of information on her, the topics she speaks about, as well as four video previews of her speeches. I've only watched the first one, "Lost Childhood", but if you thought the Lifetime movie was emotional, go watch the first video on her WSB page. I had a lot of trouble watching the whole thing, especially near the end.

That's all I know. If I hear that she's coming to my area for a speaking engagement, I'll be going there for it and will take pictures or record it, if that is legal and/or possible.
